tokunseba
Getting started

Quickstart

From nothing to a working proxy, with evidence rather than a claim.

One tool, nothing configured

The lightest possible way to try it. No settings file is written and nothing on the machine changes:

pip install tokunseba
tokunseba wrap claude

wrap launches the tool with the proxy in that process's environment for that run only. When the tool exits, nothing is left behind. It works for claude, codex, aider, opencode, cline, continue, goose, gemini, ollama, crush and qwen, and tokunseba wrap-any -- <command> covers everything else.

Run tokunseba wrappable to see which of them are installed here.

Every tool, permanently

tokunseba init

Then open a new terminal and check:

tokunseba doctor
ok proxy reachable listening on 127.0.0.1:7777
 ok  tool: claude-code         ANTHROPIC_BASE_URL -> http://127.0.0.1:7777/anthropic
ok tool: codex model_provider = 'tokunseba'
ok tool: shell-env env block present in ~/.zshrc
-- tool: gui-apps GUI applications go straight to the provider

A -- row is not a failure. It is something tokunseba can see but has not been asked to do.

Prove it is actually in the path

doctor reads configuration. verify reads traffic:

tokunseba verify

It will tell you whether requests have actually arrived, how many, and what was done to them. If nothing has arrived it says so plainly rather than showing you zeros and letting you draw the wrong conclusion. See Proving it works.

Use your tools normally

Nothing about how you work changes. Run Claude Code, Codex, or whatever you use, exactly as before.

After a session or two:

tokunseba status # today, at a glance
tokunseba stats # the last seven days
tokunseba top # what the tokens were spent on
tokunseba report # the whole picture on one page
tokunseba dashboard # the same, in a browser

Look at one request in full

Take a request id from tokunseba stats --json or tokunseba top, then:

tokunseba explain 1f4c9a20e8bb

That prints the original beside the replacement, block by block, so you can see precisely what was removed and what was kept. Every substitution names a handle:

tokunseba expand h_4b91c07e

returns the original text, byte for byte.

Decide how far it goes

Tiers 0, 1 and 2 are on. Tier 3, the only one that can change an answer, is off:

tokunseba tier # what is on
tokunseba tier explain 3 # what tier 3 would be allowed to do

Before turning anything on or off, you can try it against traffic you have already recorded:

tokunseba replay --since 7d --tier 1

Nothing is sent anywhere. See Replay.
